The Dacorum Heritage Trust

The Dacorum Heritage Trust is the Accredited museum organisation for the borough of Dacorum, based at the Museum Store in Clarence Road, Berkhamsted. The Museum Store is the home of over 65,000 objects relating to Berkhamsted and the surrounding areas, including Bovingdon, Chipperfield, Flamstead, Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley, Markyate and Tring.

We are open by appointment, Monday to Friday,10am - 4pm. Please contact the Berkhamsted Museum Store to make an appointment. Regretably, due to the nature of the building, the store is not fully accessible, although alternative arrangements can be made.

History of Dacorum Heritage Trust

The Dacorum Heritage Trust was formed in 1993 and the store has been based in the converted fire station in Clarence Road, Berkhamsted ever since. We achieved Accredited Museum status in 2008, recognising our commitment to UK Museum Standards. The Museum Store is the home of the heritage of the borough of Dacorum and is electronically catalogued for the benefit of present and future generations.

Mission Statement

To collect and record the history of the Borough of Dacorum. To interpret and display the collection in order to encourage interest and appreciation of the heritage of Dacorum.

About Dacorum

The Borough of Dacorum is situated in the western part of Hertfordshire, bordering Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It covers a diverse area, including the towns of Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Tring, and many of the scattered rural villages such as Chipperfield, Flamstead, Kings Langley and Markyate.

The Dacorum Heritage Trust is an "umbrella" museum in that it is made up of various organisations, each with their own unique collections, which are housed at the Museum Store.
