During the Heritage Open Days Event this September 2015, we opened our doors to the public for free tours of our stores. We have limited space for visitors, but we still had a lot of interest and a good turn out. During each tour the attendees were divided into two groups and shown not only the variety of objects in our collections but also the diversity of history in the local area. Highlights of the tour included viewing archaeological finds, large industrial machines, fine art and also examples of local craftwork. Visitors were also invited to handle replicas of our Victorian textile samplers and compare them to the originals (see below)
We received some lovely feedback from the visitors, which we would like to share:
“Very interesting to hear the history of the town”
“A brilliant viewing. Everything was very well explained and a lot of knowledge gathered and exchanged”
“A well worth visit. Having lived in Berkhamsted since 1948 and seen the town grow. All explained so well so I’m a lot more knowledgeable and surprised there is so much to see!”
“Very interesting tour – here’s hoping for better accommodation soon, so that more people can see these items for more of the time”
We are already looking forward to next year’s event, for the chance to share our local history with the public! However in the meantime, if you are interested in visiting us please click here for more information.
