On the 23rd June The Dacorum Heritage Trust took part in Goldfield School ‘History Day’, involving 4 classes of 30 pupils in years 1 and 2. The aim was to teach the children about Tring’s industrial History, with an emphasis on straw plaiting. We did this using objects the pupils could handle, comparing old and new maps of Tring and also giving them the opportunity to make their own piece of straw plait.
Below read some of the comments made by the teachers of the school and photos we took of the workshop.
“The children loved having to put on the special gloves and this really helped emphasise the delicate nature and importance of the objects.”
“The Children were engaged and interested in all the activities that you brought along, they loved being able to have a go at plaiting, handling the objects and looking at the maps and photos.”
“Thank you to you and your team for coming and giving the children the opportunity to have such a hands on experience.” – teacher
