Memories of Evacuees

On Friday, 13 March, 57 year 4 pupils from Grove Road Primary School were transported back in time to experience life as evacuated children during the Second World War.
Staff and volunteers, many of whom were evacuated as children, ran activities, including looking at government propaganda posters, making gas masks and imagining being in an air raid shelter during the blitz. In our mock air raid shelter, the children were taught Second World War songs, including 'Run Rabbit Run' and 'Tuppence to Spend', which were sung as a group at the end of the day.

These postcards were written by the children, back at school, to tell us what they enjoyed most and what they remembered about their day as evacuees.
