Digging

For 2 days during the Festival of British Archaeology (17 July and 1st August), over 100 families visiting Tring and Berkhamsted libraries dug for Roman pottery and looked at finds from archaeological sites around the area. Children became archaeologists as they cleaned and identified their objects and discovered what games Roman children played, what different pots were used for and how Romans kept their ears clean!

Using the painted pottery in the collection as inspiration for their designs, children decorated a Roman tile to take home with them.
