Legacies

Leaving a gift to charity in your will keeps your money working towards the causes that are important to you, as well as making the burden of inheritance tax lighter.

It is very simple to include a legacy to The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd in your will. You can make a gift of a specified sum of money. If you have already made your will but decided to include The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd, you may wish to add a codicil that makes changes to existing wills.

If you leave a gift to The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd, its value will be deducted from your estate (your money, possessions and property) before Inheritance Tax is worked out. Gifts made before your death may also qualify for exemption.

Ways you can leave gifts to The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd in your will:

  • If your estate is liable to Inheritance Tax, you could reduce the amount due by choosing to give money to The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd
  •  You can either leave a fixed sum or part or all of your estate once other gifts have been distributed
  •  You can do this through your will, or by a declaration to the executors or personal representatives giving instructions as to how you would like your legacy to be distributed. If you are leaving money to The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd, make it clear that you want The Dacorum Heritage Trust Ltd to receive your gift

Gifts made to a charity in the seven years before your death are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
