Interested in history? Do you want to help keep the heritage of your local area alive? Meet like-minded people and learn new skills as you discover more about the history of Dacorum?
At the Dacorum Heritage Trust, we rely heavily on our team of dedicated and hard-working volunteers to help manage the day-to-day running of the Museum Store as well as getting involved in longer term projects. Volunteers often come to us through their local history society or from other organisations, such as the Volunteer Centre in Hemel Hempstead.
Currently, our volunteers are working on a number of projects including a full audit of the collection, re-packaging and photographing the textile collection and Museum-standard marking. Future projects will include updating our collections’ management system, basic conservation work, digitisation of the archive and researching public enquiries.
“Great for a regular meeting with like-minded people.” “Helping to extend knowledge of the past, often based on one’s own experiences.” “Creating records which can be consulted by future generations.” “Honing one’s computer skills. Being able to see the archives first hand and use them for research and publication.”
If you would like to donate some of your time to the Dacorum Heritage Trust we would be more than happy to hear from you. Utilising your skills and interests, we will find a suitable project for you to work on. Please contact the Curator to discuss ways in which you could help as a volunteer.
