Herbert Eatton Todd was for some time both a children’s book writer and the sales director for a ladies shoe firm, until retiring in 1969. He lived in Kings Langley and later in Berkhamsted where many of the tales about his famous character Bobby Brewster, were published in the Berkhamsted Parochial.
Although it is thought that the stories were thought up originally to entertain his three sons, he ended up visiting schools and libraries all around the UK and overseas to tell and share his tales. He also appeared on Children’s Hour from its start in 1946.
