As you will be aware this weekend is the 75th anniversary of VE Day and prior to the current social restrictions many events had been planned to commemorate this historic occasion. Although these events have now been cancelled due the covid-19 pandemic, at Dacorum Heritage Trust we have been trying to mark the occasion.
As a result we have produced a special edition newsletter which includes local photographs and stories from VE day 75 years ago. The newsletter also includes all the details of how you can celebrate for those who may not have seen the information online.
We hope you will be able to help us reach individuals without internet access. If you are able, you are welcome to print and distribute copies to members of your local community.
Alongside the newsletter we have also produced a film, which includes images from the collection in some cases have been colourised the first time.
In light of VE Day, we are also encouraging people to use the hashtag #DacorumVEDay2020 online to share photos and stories of your families’ contributions to the war effort.
We have put a list of WW2 soldiers names from all the local war memories on our website. In many cases there is little or no information and we are asking local people for information to help fill in the gaps. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org
